Excerpts from The Life That Is Left (in poetry)

Set Me Free
I searched in your eyes
And I wondered at you
Was love worth all the tears
You were willing to shed for me?

I waved a long goodbye
Without crying or pain
Not feeling deprived
While you pretended not to hurt

You know you left me alive
And set me free

Fall
I stood beneath one of
Autumn’s children
A yellowing fluttering tree
So constant and so constantly
Changing itself

A messenger began
In a slow descent
Spiraling down
Toward my gaze
Encircling my head
As it passed by me
To land finished
On the cluttered ground

From the top of the circle
To the end of the journey
One leaf fell
All in a whisper
And an autumn goodbye
